well...... i've been so busy this past month that i dont think i've been on the forum but once or twice.

this lack of time is making me consider taking the tank down or selling it as a package. i keep telling myself that the tank doesn't really take up much of my time. Just adding top-off every morning and feeding the fish every two days. spending an hour a week total on the tank and another hour once a month to do water changes. but i think i'm loosing intrest in the hobby! i know a lot of the way i feel is because i live in a aprtmnt. and can't do any diy projects to keep me intrested with the tinkering part of the hobby, but i also have been traveling a lot too.

i lost a couple of corals that i grew from frags over the past 2 years( i moved some stuff around and they stung and killed each other) and it has also put a damper on my mood about the tank.

i still love the hobby, but part of me tells me it's time to move on from it.

not sure what to do!!!!

hmm well I was in the same boat when I sold my 55g. I kinda regret it but it has opened a clean slate to 'do it right this time around' I know your way past that stage in things though. I do have to agree about the DIY. Its almost a hobby within the hobby. I know I wouldn't be able to afford nearly as much stuff in this hobby if I didn't built it myself. Plus I like the hands on projects. To me their fun :)

Not sure what else you could do. You've had fantasic tanks in the past so finding a new niche you haven't done (SPS, LPS, or Clams) would be kinda hard to try.

Well I know from my experience and from that of others, the best part about the hobby is you can never really leave. After a many years of not having any tanks I suddenly found myself surrounded in them again, even buying a tank larger than any I had ever imagined were made. So rest assured if you do leave, you'll never go far.

And thanks for leaving the hobby at least once. I really like your old tank :)

ok kidding aside, as Mike said, you'll be back if you do decide to leave. Make it easier on yourself and don't sell the equipment you have now! Its a pain going back and buying the same thing a year later!

As someone who got out of the hobby and then back into it a year or so later, take my advice and don't sell everything if you do decide to quit for awhile. This hobby is addicting and odds are you will be back. I sold everything and it really sucked having to buy all the basic stuff over again. It makes it much more expensive to start back up.

I have been there myself ,I think it is because we get complacent with our tanks and where we are in the hobby. Not because we want to get out it, it is that we get bored sometimes with what we have and begin to think we are tired of the hobby and want to get out for awhile, all along knowing we will get back into it at one point or another. If this is the case I say step back for a moment look at what you have and all the hard work and dedication you have put into your tank and ask yourself ,could I really give this up? Your answer will more then likely be NO. Take some time change some things around maybe go a different setup, dont get out you will only regret what you have done and wish that you still had all your amazing stuff. I know you will make the right decision that is best for you.Good Luck and HAPPY REEFING.

Troy,
Don't make me come down there and put a knot on your head! I really hope you don't quit but I wish you all the luck in your decision. You need help stashing some frags, let me know and we'll grow 'em till you come back and you WILL be back....

Yes isn't it funny how we all strive for that "perfect" tank. You know the one, it will be mainly self sufficient with all the best equipment, it will dose itself with CA reactors and Kalk reactors making dosing and guess work a thing of the past, chillers to keep the temp correct, full of fast growing SPS, clams, zoas, rics, and LPS. And yet when we actually get there and the tank is just about self sufficient, not needing food or chemicals to maintain itself, we suddenly lose interest. We cuss them all along the way until that point and then suddenly retire.

I say keep most of the tank running, maybe sell of some of the corals, but keep it running as a fish only for awhile. I have a really nice 125g freshwater tank that needs no attention, it's simple and cheap to run, I almost forget about the 6' long tank and then one day I see it and look in at it's in habitants and I think "how nice is that?" It's still nice to know it's there to pause and look at from time to time.
