Foam Backing Argggggg

Well after about four months of the tank being up the back of the foam started to come loose and slip up from the back. So I had the fun of having to move my rock around and taking the back off. BTW, this I found is best done with a filet knife. So now I just have the foam still around the overflows and an open back that I don't know if I can get painted or not. I'm sure I'll try with a roller eventually, just need to take a break from it before I start throwing rock through it.

Wow that stinks. Didn't bond well to the glass huh? Well at least it floated to the top for easier retrival ;)

If you are not able to get a roller back there, you can get some plexiglass sheet(s) cut and paint the side that faces the back wall whatever color you want. Then you could expoxy some magnets to the back side of the tank and to the plexiglass. Or just use velcro :)

:( bummer Cliff i don't know why it woudnt stick. it never did that on the acrylic i had.. maybe the glass was just to slick and the water seeped up from the bottom,, I appologize if my encouragment of this caused you any trouble

Just get some Liquid Nails from Home Depot and squirt it in the tank, I'm sure that will work. Just got to watch those pesky tangs, they like to eat glue for some reason! lol :P

No apology needed. I thought it was a really cool idean and wanted to try something different. It does appear to be sticking well to the acrylic overflows so maybe that is the secret.

I did do some thinking about it afterwards and thought this may help anyone trying in the future. Once the outside of the foam has cured enough (backside attaching to glass will still be somewhat wet) take a piece of plywood that is about the same size and lay it on the foam with some bricks. This may help to bond the glass to the foam a little better. I had mine laying on its back when I did it so this would work for me in this case.

I thought about using a large piece of cheap plexi and painting it and setting it behild like mentioned and just setting it up agains the back between the overflows so it looks better. I actually can probably reach back there pretty good with my little mini roller that I have. did it before and it worked out good. Now just need to decide which to do.
