View Full Version : Corals Freaking Out!!!!!

OK can someone tell me if this is normal or not? I just switched my actinic lighting from PC to T5's. My corals freaked at this. I didn't think it would affect them that much. All my zoas are half open , and some of my sps are as well. Any suggestions ? Should I cut back on the time the lights are on to let them adjust??

Never heard of actinic lighting negatively affecting coral. Since T5's are conciderably brighter, they may just be reacting to the sudden increase in brightness, Id just watch them and give them the opportunity to adjust.

Any light changes will affect the behavior of your coral. My suggestion is cut back on the photo-period for a few days until they react as they always do. They are not in danger.

T5s are bright!
This guy went from a 2x250w halides to a T5 tek light, and this is what it did to his corals :o

So should I cut back just the T5 Lighting or both the T5 and MHs?

since the t5's are only 24w, it would be ok to run both. The t5s alone definitely wouldnt be sufficient alone though

If the only thing you changed were the actinics, I wouldnt cut back on either. Like I said, they'll adjust.

OK I cut the cycle down a few hours, most of the stuff has begun to open so I'll see how it goes.

Lights are out for the evening and nothing seemed too stressed guess I'll see tomorrow! Those actinic T-5 sure do put out some blue!!!!
