Noticed a bunch of burnt tips on my Large Nathans Green Millie.. so i tested my ALK and it was at 12 DKH :( .. Turns out i was evaporating my water too fast and replacing with too much kalkwasser.. i did small water chang and took my reactor off line for now.. i hate it when i do something stupid!!!!

Not stupid, but part of our learning curve. I do things to help my learning curve all the time :angel .
I did not know that too much Kalk could raise the Alkilinity too high. Do you know what your Ca level was. I am asking because I have been planning on making a Kalk reactor and I replace almost 5 gallons of evaporation water on really hot sunny days.

My CA was at 450.. driping too much will raise your alk but will also raise your PH too quick if not careful.. 5 gal is a lot of evaporation. if your not over 180 gal i would consider dosing kalk with a dosing pump and make up the rest with RO/DI

I have about 400g of water. I knew about Ph, and understand the chemical substitution relative to carbonate ions when dosing kalk. I did not know we have to watch our Alk that close when dosing Kalk.
I am glad you posted this.
