Hey guys,
Well, I am in need of an RO unit..looking for a 100 GPD. I just wanted to know what you guys use. I had an AquaFX Barracuda which i made the very dumb mistake of selling when i left the hobby.
What do you guys use?
Whats your opinion on Ebay RO units?

Its hard to beat an aquaFx, great price, cheap replacement filters, excellent customer service that you can actually get on the phone.
Plus the units are mounted to a metal bracket for longterm durability.

I swore up and down I'd never get an RO unit because of the hassle and expense. Hassle being that it would take forever to fill anything up at the normal 75gpd rate. I ended up buying an AquaFX Mako 300gpd unit and really like it. I had a membrane burst, rather than replace it and have 2 used membranes and 1 new membrane, I decided to bypass the burst membrane. With 2 membranes running I get 5g in 30 minutes. Not bad at all. So uh yeah I've been pleased with AquaFX.
Personally I'd stay away from the Ebay $99 units. They use cheap Chinese lookalike filters. I bought the filters as a replacement set for another cheap RO unit I once bought. I could never get the output lower than 24TDS. I'd check out the economy models from Buckeye Field Supply. For about $20 more than the Ebay units you get genuine Filmtech membranes and quality prefilters.

Skip the Ebay filters.... ;) trust me
I'd go with AquaFX or a filter from Buckeye Field Supply.

Thanks guys!
Yeah, my guess was "you get what you pay for" with the ebay units. So after AquaFX , Buckeye Supply would be a second best? I really miss my 100 GPD AquaFX Barracuda. The replacenmt packages where really cheap. It had an integrated TDS meter.. I miss it!!!!

Did you do one in the past for the AquaFx? If so what model was the group order for?

i would be up for a group purchase. my AquaFX is sitting in the shedd, i need to replace both DI beds, the carbon, and probably the membrane as well since it's 2 years old.

that last one we did with aquafx was 2-3 years ago and tim marvin put it together
it was for the 100gpd barracuda and IIRC the price was $185 and included an inline tds meter and they also included the line taps or garden hose adaptor too if memory serves me correct

whoah, found out why i got the strange voice mail the other day
i was told by the person that answered the phone that aquafx is no longer in business
the phone number is now used by a business that will hook you up "if you are out on the water and need a light that attracts fish like no other"
thoughts? would anyone be interested if we went through buckeye field supply or spectrapure? both are sponsors
or purelyh20 as well?
ill still do the legwork if there is enough interest???
