I've done a few DIY ATO units, some were great and some were a little sketchy. But lately I can't see to beat the price of www.autotopoff.com I think they are a sponsor. The guy that owns the company is one of Bigbird's homeboys.

I made my own and like it.

Mike asks, Isn't that what they have insurance for? So you can experiment?

The osmolator seems to be pretty reliable. I use a peristaltic medical dosing pump, the nautilus from innovative aquatics. It works great, and it is impossible to flood your tank. You do have to occasionally adjust the flow with seasonal changes in evaporation, but to me that's a small price to pay for the total safety of the system.
Actually, I have two dosing pumps; the litermeter for KW, so I guess that's my current top off pump, and I'm using the nautilus with the two channel tubing for automated dosing of 2 part Ca/Alk supplement.

If your wanting to hook directly to your ro/di line then I like the spectrapure level controller.

I'm going to say the Tunze Osmolator again. Once you experience the Tunze technology, its hard to steer away from it ;)

Nice
I ordered it on a whim once and it has been by far the best piece of equipment I have gotten in this hobby. :)

i went ahead and built a new one yesterday i took a 10' grounded extension cord and cut it about a ft from the end then took an electrical box and wired it thru there i wired the negitive end thru the float switch and the positive thru a light wall switch put a face plate on it and called it done that way i can turn it off and on during water changes
