Has any body ever experienced RTN after fragging??? I had a green slimer that was the one of the healthiest corals in my tank. It had fast growth thus the reason for fragging. After a couple of days I noticed son RTN on some of the branhces (not the ones I fragged). I tried to cut off the pieces that had RTN'd to keep it from spreading but it didn't help. No other corals seem to be affected. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this. Makes me worry abou fragging my stuff!!!

I have had that happen to me in the past. I had a beautiful A. sarmentosa colony. I decided to get a few frags from it.. Its started STNing after that. I lost the colony but not the frags.

Why it happens? I have no idea. Ive fragged many colonies before and all of them did great.

Oh and before ya'll ask. I tested all my water parameters and everything checks out.

Alk---10dkH
Calcium 500ppm
Magnesium 1300
pH 8.3
Nitates, Amm, 0
Phosphates say 0, but I'm running phosguard anyways.
Salinity 1.026

I know almost nothing about tissue necropsis..

My hypothesis:

I believe its cause by stress to the coral.. ANY type of stress. I think that any changes to the coral physical or living condition causes tissue necropsis. An example? stray electricity. Ive read a few articles about how stray electricty in the tank could cause RTN/STN. Maybe an old powerhead or another gadget letting out some volts..

In this case..fragging is like cutting someone's arm.. That would cause TONS of stress..

The tricky part about this is.. How come other colonies do fine after been fragged??

Big dilemma..

Thanks guys. It just seemed weird to go so fast. I only fragged about 2 small pieces for some people because it was starting to come in contact with my other acros and poof it was gone. I'll have the guys at kingfish test my water just to be safe!!!
