Hello nice helpful people...
I am cycling up a tank and currently have only live rock and live sand in it (and a few snails, teeny tiny brittle star hitchikers, amphipods, etc.) The problem is that this weird slime bubble thing has suddenly developed (I don't think that it was there yesterday.) It is between two branches of an old coral skeletonish piece of live rock type stuff. It is transparent and irregularly shaped. I would take a photo for you, but seeing as it is clear...
Does anyone have any idea what this could be and how concerned I should be? Please let me know if you have any ideas... Thanks!!! Alice

hmm, My first thought was Valonia or 'bubble algae' but you say its clear and irreguarly shaped? Weird. See if you can post a decent pic so we can ID it better for you...

Could it be possibly nothing but an air bubble?

Well, I moved the rock trying to get a better look/possible picture, and the thing disintegrated. It appears to have been some sort of a filmy bubble. There were also some white specks on the bottom of the bubble/top of the branch making up the base of the bubble. I don't know if this will help or hurt the diagnosis, but now there is no hope of a photo. Thanks... Alice

Sounds like something cool to look at. Maybe a worm web (eg: spiderweb). Many tanks grow alot of unknown life forms. After a period of time most of the diversity dies off.

could be a film that started up with sand. and air bubbles made it bigger..
