just because i choose not to pay my yellow page bills doesn't meen the store went out of business. the store makes money, i just didn't think the yellow pages didn't do that much for me, like all the salesmen proclain so i didn't pay them. i just paid all of junes bills for the store. its just sitting there. its not a bad location and i had, and have a good customer base. i have several customers from maast even thow they never seem to speak up for me when i'm in need. i simply don't want to do retail anymore. i am going into a service industry where i can be paid for my time, instead of someone asking me questions for hours and then buying it at petco. whats there salt price? anyway all of you in retail can feel my pain. i work and toil for ever to make my store look nice so someone and there little darlings and come in a **** it up. its very frustrating when you work so hard for something and everyone doesn't give a rats a**. wait wait i know what all of you maastards are going to say, cry me a river, right. Well no pitty party's here. i am just explaining why since there seems to be a need for an explenation. peace out

Jason, yep retail is tough. Someone asked for advise one time and I told him welcome to retail, get a thicker skin. I know it's easy to get mad when people don't appreciate the work you do that they don't see, but then again I don't appreciate how much work HEB does I'm just ticked when the gallon of milk leaks in my car.

It's just retail.

Still you can't lump everyone together. There's no special requirement to join a forum, it's just a bunch of people. Some are great to deal with some not just like any of the other people that walk in the door.

no need to lock it... let the man say his part... its a forum and he wanted to state his opinion on a front page of a thread instead of 5 pages deep

My "little darlings" are the reason that I and I am sure for most of us here that we are in and have stayed in this hobby. As most people will say it is because of Finding Nemo, a "little darlings" movie that has made this hobby explode in the last few years. You have never treated my "little darlings" bad when I was in your store. However my uncle that told me about your store told me that he would never step foot in there again because of the way you treated his "little darling". It was not your bad location, it was the way you treated your customers that says everything about your store. As you can see I started the other thread and never put your store down, but if you are going to come on and say that about "little darlings" I can gaurantee that if you were still open that I would have never stepped foot in your store again.

btw - i locked the other one because i didnt want any more negative comments about you or your store. i think you are mistaken that you dont get a fair say here. the problem is, you seem to let your emotions get the better of you and you forget that some people around here like to push buttons just to see the drama. i think richard had some good advice, let it go - dont give them the satisfaction of knowing it got to ya. those of us who are your customers know what kind of business you run, and those button pushing comments dont influence us. i know what it is like to put in lots of effort and see little appreciation, just remember why you did it in the first place.

All I was trying to do is keep some peace, I can tell the man is already bent why would he want to continue to get slammed by certain people sometimes no matter what you say no matter what you do you just cant change people. I agree he has a right to vent and tell his side of the story, but if that store is going to sell you have to let it go at some time or another other wise it will just eat at you and the store will never sell because it gets a bad rap, and by replying to these forums, your anger will leave that bitter taste in your mouth for a long time.Let it go, sell your store and move on.

Let me give you a profound quote I heard on celebrity fit club (lol, yes on VH-1)
Ross said to Dustin "It's not the world against you, sometimes it's you against the world."
I love small business, it is what keeps our country sane, and for the owners themselves, insane.
I do understand why you are so defensive, as you are explaining situations to the best of your ability
and it seems to fall on deaf ears, but trust me it doesn't. Having been the guy with "the hookup"
I completely understand people trying to be extra nice to you for personal gain/benefit.
Other people are nice and complimentary other times just because they are nice. You are there to answer
customer questions and inquiries. This is how you build rapport with your customers.
When I was in sales, people bought from me for one reason, product knowledge. Ask me ANYTHING
about termites, and I will inform you of more knowledge in 1 minute than you could research in a day.
I felt informing the customer would help them to make the right decision, wether or not they chose
to make it, because in the end, it is their decision. It seems like you feel defeated, and that
your store was not appreciated, but if you have people come in, or come back, it obviously is.
I am sorry that this forum has been ill-willed towards you, but sometimes, you really have
to dig deep, and seriously look at yourself. I am loud, obnoxious, buggy, and irritating. I speak
before my brain tells me not too, but hey, I must need Ritalin right? Each journey is our own,
don't let the actions or words of others influence how you truly feel. Again, best of luck to you.

Though not in retail or the customer service buisness, I feel your pain for "little darlings". Are there accident where the kid does something he shouldn't sure, But when a parent lets them do something wrong that's another thing. If you bring your 'little darlings' out to the store and they can't act right then it is the parents fault and they should disapline them. I remember when I was a kid there were certain stores I had to keep my hands in my pockets to ensure I wouldn't touch/break something.
Gueess I'm just a complainer but when I go to a store and there is a child misbehaving (ie banging on the glass on a fish store) I will say something; trying to be nice. If they continue to misbehave I will tell the parents. And if they are there watching the whole thing man will I give them an earfull.
But you started the retail buisness for a reason. Don't let a few bad apples spoil the buch.

I have been to this store several times and bought more then salt. I will miss the salt prices. It was a nice little store and I am sorry to see it closed.

I have seen the posts in the past that were negative to the store and the owner, I am suprise that he continued to sponsor this board. I wish him well.

Reatil in San Antonio is extremly difficult for most LFS due do a culture of " CHEAP PRICES " are always valued over good service , quality healthy fish or corals . For that reason certain LFS with terrible service , parasite infested fish but are "CHEAP" will always be in bussines ! .
