i recently got an 85 gal tank to upgrade my 29 brackish tank. when i set it up i used the sand and water i had cycled in my 10 gal tank, then transfered water from my 29 to my 10 so i could keep all my fish in there until the 85 had settled and the levels went to 0. once i got all my fish in the 10 gal i took all the sand and water from the 29 gal tank and put it in my 85 gal. i then used about 35 gals of water from my established 135 gal reef tank. i used about 15-20 gals of fresh made saltwater to fill the tank the rest of the way. i waited about 24 hours for the sand to settle and tested the water. the levels read: ph 8.0, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 20. i just tested a little bit ago and the levels are: ph 8.0, ammonia .50, nitrite.50, and nitrate 40. livestock are: 3 green spotted puffers, 2 fan dance gobies, a 3 stripped damsel, a dogface puffer and a large hermit crab. the dogface puffer is the newest addition. he was doing great yesterday, swimming all over and eating, now this morning he has what appears to be a big blister on his side. i can't get a good picture of it since my camera isn't the greatest. has anyone ever expierenced fish getting blisters? i realize now that my thinking was off when i thought i could use established water and sand in a new tank and have it cycle in 24 hours. i just figured since i could buy a fully stocked tank and bring it from austin to killeen and set it all back up and put the fish in there within an hour of putting it back together that i could take sand and water from different established tanks in my house and it'd be the same thing. i guess i was wrong. but now my concern is my fish. what can i do to help him out? i don't want him to die, but i don't know how to fix it. would putting him in my qt tank stress him out more than leaving him in the 85 gal? any advice would be great.
