Has anyone lined their canopies with this stuff? I was curious! Mylar is that stuff that they make baloons with, It's the stuff that has the mirror finish. My buddy was doing a project and I remember he bought a roll off the net for uber cheap. Just kinda curious to see if anyone has thought of or used it before.

I've heard of people using it to line their canopies before adding their reflectors. That way any stray light might still reflect down. There are 2 camps to this, the first one says it is a great idea and will definitely brighten up the tank, the other camp says that since it is not directed anywhere the light is of no use. Both camps may be right. Maybe one guys system worked well because of the reflectors and wattage he was running but the other guy may have been underpowered to begin with. I'd say that for the relatively cheap price if you have a canopy why not give it a try. Other camps have stated that spray painting the canopy with silver paint, or bright white high gloss paint will also improve the brightness of the tank. I'd say if you are going to try and paint it to have the surface as flat as possible fist with no wood seams. You can buy Mylar by the foot at most hydroponic/greenhouse shops. I was amazed at how much cheaper lighting was at Texas Hydroponics than at the LFS. Same stuff to, not cheap imitations. Brands like Sunlight Supply dominated.

I used this on my very first canopy. I took a shop light reflector and sprayed it with Elmer's spray glue and applied the mylar. It worked great and had the angles of the shop light to give it "reflecting"qualities. I still have a pretty good size roll of the mylar. The glue held great.

I was thinking that since the water surface ultimately reflects water that putting mylar inside would help reflect back?
