I got a great deal from Clone's buddy. I got a puffer which I dont know what it is. It's got a red body with white stripes and dots. Shape resembles that of a valentini/saddleback but the coloration is vividly red. I also got a full sized tang, which I am feeling bad for, thank god we move this weekend, and will be getting the 75 soon! I also got a humu trigger, and a foxface. We also got our lion from Thelma, as she was having problems. Yes these are all in my 47g column. Once I get the 75, I will be picking up our other two tangs and our snowflake eel from Barry. This is about as stocked as I can go with my 75 correct?

i hate to say it erik, but imho, that is MORE than you should put into a 75 gallon tank.

yeah sorry eric.. more than one tang in a 75 is pushing it, especially if they are in with agressive fish

those are some potentialy large fish, and big eaters at that. what kind of tangs?what kind of lion? even if they're smaller ones i'd still say that's overstocked.

My first thoughts were that it's a stretch... Especially with nitrate factories like a puffer, and then a trigger & a lion...

Well call me different but I have a 75g with 4 tangs (yellow, scopus, salfin, convict) along with one 4 inch GSM clown and a lyretail anthias. All of them couldn't be happier. Well ok if they where in the ocean or in a giant tank, then yes they could be happier but all four tangs get along great together. Now on another note I really don't have much to say, since I have only been in for 4 months now. Erik try and get a hold of seamonkey (Jose) and see if you can go by and see his tanks. You will not believe your eyes.

I wanted to go a similar route as this one. I love tangs and my snowflake eel. I had a 75 gal with 2 tangs, the eel, couple of angles, diamond goby, blah blah blah. Anyway to cut it short to me it seamed with all of these fish in a 75 the realy didn't move from their designated homes very much. With my love for tangs and seeing this non-activity I decided to get a larger tank. They swim all over the place now. These are now aparently happy fish, I even increased the tang population to 4 now and they still have tons to grow. If you can (and I understand the cost thing) go for a larger tank with tangs, eels, lions, ect.

The Tang issue is not with the actual size of them, but with the amount of individual swimming room they need. Sure you could shove 5-6 tangs in a small tank and make them live, but to get the great colors and natural swimming habits displayed they should have lots of swimming room to each. Of coarse you should also so consider the adult size of all of your fish, since we spend hundreds and thousands of dollars to keep these fish long term, in hopes that all will go as planned and have big fish from the same small fish we buy.

Yeah I must say you are pushing it... and I usually don't comment on stocking levels because every system is different. There are several factors involved in determining if you are overstocked, and what is lighlty stocked to some is waaay overstocked to others. A few things to consider: Feeding requirements, adult size, YOUR FILTRATION method, your water change schedule.

FYI I got rid of my SFE because he just got too big for my 240g, not just the size ( 3ft ) , but he ate me out of house and home.

I am definitley over stocked still though...you know how I know? Nitrates...still over 40ppm after several years of trying to do the impossible...an aggressive reef , stocked heavy and nitrates under 10ppm. I have a 6ft skimmer that produces over a gallon a week, change 40g of water every week, have a nitate reducer, two large fuges, a clam tank that is connected, a sump with cellpore and live rock rubble. >_< >_< >_<

Depending on your skimmer, feeding , and water changes, that stock list will probably have well over 80ppm nitrate, which is fine with XENIA, mushrooms etc, but not for much else...but if its going to be a FOWLR you will be fine, that is depending on what kind of tangs you are talking about ... :)

I will do as I have in the past, if the fish look like they're getting too big I will sell them. I got some terrific deals on these fish, and I am going to wait till we get the new tank in place before I make any decisions. In our 47 currently, everything tests out fine. All of these fish are small except for the tang, and the lion is still a baby.
