Ok so I bought a 135ish tank and it is drilled with a 2 inch bulk head. The tank is 21 inches tall, and it is drill 17 inches up from the bottom, right in the middle (half way width). My question is how do I work with this? What are my options as drainage?

sounds like an intake for a closed loop

or you could make/buy and overflow box to glue in front of it.

Well you can do a few things. Just leave it with that elbow threaded to it, and water will drain from there. It won't be the best or most effective drain, but it will work.

Or you can make a small Calflo overflow box for it. Something that may not run the whole length of the back wall.

Or you can get another hole drilled in the back and run a whole length Calflo box. I would recommend using 2 holes, just incase one gets clogged, you have a second drain that could handle the water flow. Calflo's are nice. They do not take up that much space in the tank and do an awesome job a surface skimming.

If I get a second hole drilled, where? and What size? The one that I have now is 2 inch. I was thinking Calflo overflow box as well, I just want to know what my options are.

What about with the one drain but a calflo box that is about three or four feet long on the back that will skim a good portion of the surface, so that there would be no more need for a second hole to be drilled?

Well I wouldn't drill anymore holes than you need to. How long is a 135g tank? 5'? I'd stick with the one 2" drain in the center. Just make the calflo equal half the overall length of the tank.

....downloading Google SketchUp now at work. No more Paint drawings :P

The tank is 6 feet long.

With one 2" hole I wouldn't go longer than 3' on the overflow. But its up to you. You can run it the whole length of the tank but just keep in mind what kind of return pump you will be using. You do not want anything that the drain in the overflow can't keep up with.

I have my 135g drilled with two 2" and a full length calfo. I will never have to worry about overflow problems again and can run 3600 gph thru this with now problems.
