under my pcs i could pull off some pretty nice macro shots. since i got my mh fixture, all the pictures are pretty much blue. do i need a filter of some sort? i want to order a wide angle/macro lens off ebay and a 2x telephoto lens, but im not sure about the ebay lens out there. can anyone chime in?

camera is a sony cybershot dsc-h2. it has full manual mode but im still not good enough to play with that setting :(

It is blue because of your bulb. I have the 14k phoenix and they are pretty blue. You will probably have to get a different bulb to whiten.

so, would a 10k bulb supplimented by 2 40watt pc bulbs be a better route to take?

With 14k bulbs you will have to set your white balance to the highest kelvin setting it can go. If it has a Kelvin setting pick the highest number possible. If it does not have Kelvin setting try setting it to cloudy or shady. Some cameras can be further by adjusthy by setting white balance compensation. Generally, you will set that to the maxium negative setting. If your camera has custom white balance adjustment. First, read directions for your camera to set custom white balance. You can use a coffee lid or a gray card and put it in the tank and set the custom white balance.

If all else fails, generally you can get good results by changing the white balance in post processing. Post a picture and I will show you what I mean.

Oh and if your camera can do raw format, then use that format and then get a program that can read your raw format. CS2, Bibble, RSE etc.....
