So i have a ten gallon nano recently setup from my bigger 50 gallon tank. same water and a filter pad i used in my sump.

my question is: I have an Emperor 400 on it now and a powerhead for more flow. now i have a red sea Prizm skimmer that i recently took off my 50 gallon because i got a new skimmer for it. should i use the Prizm on my 10 gallon or just keep the emperor 400 on there?

and both of them wont fit.

hey bud,

I tried using a red sea prism on a 10 gallon tank before and it was an unmitigated disaster. There are no two things in the reefing hobby I hate more than prizm's and Rio pumps. (aiptasia runs close however)

My advice, either leave it off, or find something better. theya re so tough to dial in, and once they are dialed in, they don't really do a great job anyhow.

All I could ever get out of mine was a worthless foam, i could never get it to the point where it produced anything resembling tea.

stick w/ the emperor and be dilligent in your filtrer changes.

Man, this sounds like my tank! An emperor 400 sure does the trick on a little 10 gallon, doesn't it? As for the skimmer, don't even worry about it. With a little waterchanging the skimmer's purpose is eliminated. I went a step further than you and forced a penguin mini on there for even extra filtration. All this filtration makes it able for me to house a peppermint shrimp, a nean damsel, a green clown goby, and soon an engineer goby. So far, I have lost nothing due to ammonia or nitrates, but if you want to play it safe on the fish, then go for it.
