Thunderkat's 24 Gallon Aquapod

Here is my Aquapod, it has been running for about 2 weeks maybe. I started off with a full bag of aragonite sand (not live- think it is about 40 pounds), added some bacterial starter, and then let it run for a few days. I then bought some live rock from a fellow reefer in Virginia Beach, it came with beautiful green star polyps, a pink pom pom xenia, some cool sponges, 7 polyps of orange and brown zoos, 3 apitasia (they tragically died in a fire), tons of cool snails, lots of micro brittle stars, copepods, caribbean corallimorphs (sp?), plus lots of other things. After a few days I added 12 stomatellas (woot!) from Tidewater Corals and then 12 nassarius snails from the Reef Chief and also a small conch from him (not a queen).

May I also state I am not an artist, no tank I put together will ever look aestetically pleasing. :lol

Very simple arrangment but I like it :)

Just an idea but you could move the rocks forward a bit and then let caulerpa prolifera grow in on the sandbed behind the rockwork. Would make a nice background for the corals and help with water quality too. Caulerpa prolifera is the one that looks like seagrass and it's easy to control unlike some of the other caulerpa's....

Oh my goodness that stuff looks hot! I hope I can find some, that stuff is nice looking and right up my alley!

hmmm if you were in san antonio I would say try alamo aquatics......we got a massive bag of it for $15.
Had to go and plant both the 10 gallon in the bedroom, our 29 biocube, and a friends 75 gallon just to use it up.

I think we still ended up with more than we needed after that too

nice looking aquapod. i have one myself. im going to build a simple canopy to hold my lights in in about an hour. have to wait till neighbors go to work at 645am.

then, its out with the woodworking tools!

I want to add some palythoas next but with the limited space I want to get some nice ones. I still plan on ordering some stuff from San Antonio shops, the ones out here for some reason pale in comparison.

I am going to try to track down some of that caulepra out here, then after that I want to try to make some rock to get the shapes I want for the tank. A definite work in progress, the live rock from another person's tank was the best way to go. The amount of life in my tank already is awesome, the water and glass are covered with white dots (copepods) I bet the corals and sponges are happy!

I have seen tons of mods for JBJ for lighting, I was wondering if anybody knows if there are any lighting upgrades for the Aquapod or is it already awesome enough as it is?

did u get rid of original aquapod canopy yet? if not what size is it? im looking for a new one.
