My new Coral Breeder tank 75 Gallon. I stained it bombay red and painted the rim black to match the newly painted grey slate wall. IF ya didn't know I grow alot of corals from my house, and getting tired of growing out corals in two 55 gallon and one 29 gallon tank. This tank will have two 250 watt metal halides with 2 super actinic VHOs in the coming months. Or do ya think I should just get Two 14 K bulbs? Any recommendation?

Personally I don't think the corals get the true coloring they need without the "TRUE" actinics whatever type you use.

I was thinking about that today also. I'm gonna run 12 K reflux or 10K with Two 4ft Super Actinic VHOs. I believe the 10K mogul reflux has a higher par than the 12K giving more light output. Can anyone verify that ?

Yup. Anytime you go to the higher Kelvins the par drops substansualy. An ideal lighting scenerio would be like a 5.5K halide and enough vho actinics to compensate for the extreme yellow. I have yet to see a single bulb truley able to simulate the combination of 10K and actinics, they all look unnatural to me and way too blue for my liking, not to mention their inability to separate different hues on similarly colored corals. Guess Im just hard headed.

You??

Nah....

But I gotta agree, a good 10k and Actinics is the way to go for great growth and color ;) But what you do with my 2 cents, well.......

Which 10 K bulbs 250 watt single end do ya recommend that is not too yellow?

The reeflux ones are not too yellow more white than anything. I personally use the 12K reeflux and get great colors and really good growth.

I've used XM 10k's in the past. If Gary was still popping his head in here he would say they are (were?) rated very highly in PAR rattings. I think I'm going to try the ReefLux 10k's once I get my tank running.

Or you can go to SanJay's site and see some comparisons....

lol, yeah I bet he would say that all day, lol, I get great growth out of 12 k reflux also, but when I was using reefgrow 10 K bulb when I first started, I swear my LPS were growing faster. Not sure, bu since I'm doing 12 k on the main tank, I'm thinking 10 K also. Thanks guys!

This site talk about the PAr of each bulb, got this from Garrett. It looks like XM 10 K has very good par compared to coralvue 10 K and 12 K. Who knows, I grow great stuff with my reeflux 12 K , but I do notice it is dimmer than the xm 10 K on my other set up.

Nice Setup. I personally like the reeflux 10k with VHO actinics. Really fast growth and the actinics make the colors pop.

Okay today is the first time I was able to put the lights on my tank. I got a complete unit with two 175 MH on magnetic ballast and two super actinic 4 ft 110 watts. The vho are not working right now and waiting for part to fix it on friday. Well was suprise today with XM 175 watt single ended bulb on left side of tank and hamilton 14 k on the right. I can't believe my eyes, the XM is soooo much brighter than the hamilton and brighter than my 250 watt reeflux 12ks on my main tank. I decide to switch all my bulbs to xm 10 k after seeing the difference back to back in the same tank. Anyone have hooks on XM bulb brand new??? I'm looking for two 250 watt and two 175 watt single end bulbs.
