I've got a case of the monti-eating nudibranches from a monti frag I picked up a month ago.

I've been reading up on reefcentral about solutions on how to rid myself of these nudis, but there seems to be conflicting info concerning dips. :wacko

I've read that a sheep dewormer Levamisole @60ppm will stun the nudis to baste them off. But then there's this rumor that they don't sell Levamisole in the US anymore?? (Anyone have some on hand?)

Some others are saying that Tropic Marine Pro Coral Cure works well too, but the dosage varies. One person was saying 1mL TMPCC -> 100mL saltwater for 3 minutes is enough, while another was saying he put 1mL TMPCC for each cup of tank water for 30 minutes will stun the nudis.

THEN, there's the biological way... having a fish hunt down the nudis. Stories of success include radiant wrasse, yellow coris wrasse, 6-lined wrasse, sea grass wrasse?!

Has anyone had these nudis before and the process you went anout to eliminate them? They've been wrecking havoc on my brown monti cap and I've been sucking these suckers & their eggs out w/ a pipette each night.

UGHH. PS: I have Lugol's, TMPCC, FWE, and interceptor on hand.

levasole (levamisole hydrochloride)can be found as a sheep dewormer, cow dewormer or pig dewormer (varying concentrations and forms) at some feed stores. it is what i used for AEFW treatments. i got mine at new braunfels feed store. i used the sheep version in a bolus. it is easier to find in liquid form.

I used reef dip and it quarter of the price of tropic Marin pro cure. I make sure the water with the iodine base is dark tea to insure death of everything but the coral. It;s worked great for me so far. Anything dieing, I but it then dip the colonies.

The treatments you've listed are for acropora eating flatworms (AEFW) not nudibranchs.

Unfortunately, nothing really kills the nudis and nothing CERTAINLY kills their eggs. If dipped in TMPCC in my experience, the nudis don't like what is happening to them and come to the surface of the coral, making extraction with tweezers possible. Eggs can be found with a magnifying glass and taken out with a toothbrush.

Your only real option is to find a wrasse and hope for the best or remove the coral (and other montis for that matter), dip them and remove any visible nudibranchs, and QT.

Several people (the worse example is Greenmako's incident) have had their montiporas wiped out by the little guys. I'd find a wrasse in the Haliochores (sp?) family and hope that he does the job.

I am planning to snip all the encrusted monti caps from off the LR, dip them in TMPCC, baste/scrape/tweeze all nudis off, and then QT'ing my red & brown caps into different tanks. It doesn't seem like the red one caught it yet, but better safe than sorry.

I'll try to see about getting a small wrasse... but dunno how feasible it would be in a small tank. :(
