Ok this is a question I've been wondering about...What makes a People Eater a People Eater? There are Protopalys, Palys, and Zoo's...I think that the People Eaters are Zoos but I'm confused about this...

PPE's are Protopalyothoa (spelling might be off).. there are lots of look alikes out there.. thus the name red PPE's etc. the true PPE is dark purple with bright green skirt and a bright green "slit" as a mouth. I have about 6 polyps

I have had this for about two months and got it from Wolf Reef. There is that big clump on one end of the rock and another above it out of fram.

I'm not an expert but those don't look like the PPE's that I've seen, to be a PPE it has to have a green mouth a green skirt and a purple oral disk. Your's are nice though...I was looking at your post of your tank and you have a LOT of great Zoos....Look at cpreefguy's avatar sometime, those are PPE's...

Okay, I think I got lost on this one somewhere. I guess I thought that part of what defined a "people eater" no matter the color was the prominent "slit" for the mouth. Is this incorrect? Or is it only the various color morphs?

"people eater" is just the name they gave the original purple and green Palyothoa,,people just borrowed the name for palys that looked similar

I think now adays you could call the official definition of a people eater to be something like this:

Protopalythoa exhibiting a deep and solid color on the oral disc, having a luminescent green mouth and deep green skirt.

So far, the only People Eaters I have seen that I would really consider to fall into this category are:

Peruns Purple People Eaters (The originals)
Red People Eaters - there are some in the club, I think Eric has them.

I have some solid RPEs. They are totally red one solid color, biggest head is in between dime and nickel sized.

has it been proven that it does not feed off the rock? Maybe it depends on something like that? Either that or your par rocks!

Hey Brian, I saw this and was reading on RC where a few members' PPEs (didnt get them from me) morphed like that when they moved them under high light, maybe try moving them in the shade...

Christina, get out the SPF30! I just read a article about zoo's and mushrooms in the wild. They produce a protective film during low tide to protect themself when they become sunburn. :shades
