Hi guys! We need some volunteers to give presentations at meetings. So if you feel particularly qualified in a certain area, or are willing to do the research let us know. We will help any volunteers prepare the presentations...including the research ;)

There are 2 meetings in particular coming up. Brian's and Ace's. They cant be expected to host the meeting, act as a BOD, and give the presentations. :wacko

If you are interested, please pm me.

It is the hard work of the members that keep the club going, if you want to get 'more involved' the BOD can always use you!

My girlfriend opened a lunchable earlier and there was a cracker disentegrating on the cheese. She said, "That's a nasty cracker!" to which I replied, "Your mom's a nasty cracka!"
Not hijacking just laughing. ;)

How about a plumbing presentation.
Working with PVC, types of connections, sump/fuge plumbing, etc.

that would be beautiful! In fact, once I buy all parts needed and have my tank drilled, we could host that meeting at my apartment!

I was just thinking the same thing tomanero.
I know we have lots of people asking many questions about plumbing all the time. I could do a presentation but it would be very short in as there's not really a lot to it other than the basics that scare people.
I usually have plenty of leftover parts laying around that we can play with and glue together. Most of the presentation would actually be questions since it is such a basic thing that really just scares more people.

the ?'s that come up about plumbing tend to be specific"will this work?", or"where will my evap. show up in this set up?" type ?'s. as brewer said it would be hard to cover any more than the basics.

You could always use an example of what works best for most people as a general scenerio. Proven procedures that were achieved by some of the more experienced through trial and error. The K.I.S.S. rule would probably apply here. There could be a discussion of different types of pumps and their applications, ie: pressure pumps compared to non-pressure pumps. I know closed loops can be confusing for some people, a little understanding in that area would most likely benefit a few. Keep the discussion on a beginners level and define terminology as the words are used in the presentation. There could be tons of info presented and I think very much appreciated.

Showing how to make a durso pipe for those that want to know.

Basically, what Jim said.
Pump comparisons, types of connections and where to use them, valves and where best situated, etc.
Perhaps a "how to" mod a MaxiJet can be presented and raffled off after.
I've found in my searching the web while planning my plumbing there's more than one way to skin a cat.
(and I had some familiarity with home plumbing going into it).
I'm sure there's at least a few people who would be interested especially when they see how inexpensive it can be to put together your own plumbing (outside of the actual pumps).
I can also add many pieces (due to trial and error, and error, and error...) >_< to the pile "of leftover parts laying around that we can play with and glue together".

i agree also, i think that it would be helpful to also ask for some ideas of topics to cover beforehand in the month that the meeting takes place that way maybe some specific projects are covered

You can make a two part meeting. First half plumbing and the second half perhaps diy moonlighting. Just for an example.

I'll work with you guys on a plumbing format. Send me PM's as to what questions might need answering. Keep in mind that plumbing is beyond second nature to me, it is also my job, so I don't have questions running around in my head.

How intense do you want to go? We can easily plumb in a system, build durso tubes, plumb in a RO system as well. But send me suggestions like, "explain how to use PVC glue". Etc.. When I get enough "feelers" I'l try to work with someone and put together a presentation based upon what was suggested.

Use PM's so as not to flood this good thread.

And 7 days later.....

BUMP...

Come on people. The lack of attention to the higher ups asking for help could cause the fallout of meetings altogether. They need our help. I offered to help and asked for common questions to plumbing issues to try and put something together, IE: what do you have questions about with plumbing that I might be able to present? No replies.

I'd hate to see the folks at the top think that the others don't appreciate the efforts they put into the club and just stop having meetings.

Unfortunately I can't make it to this meeting, but I would have liked to see a presentation on sump designs.

I am no expert on ANYTHING, but I would love to give a presentation sometime. Maybe if we get information on the subject(s) from many members with experience in the particular area, those of us that are clueless :wacko can still do the presentations.

What Christina is asking is: Who is willing to stand up in front of people and give the info...if you aren't an expert it is no big deal. If you are an expert that's fantastic! We just need people to talk---MAAST is not a hard crowd. We're pretty laid back, so the presentations don't have to be professional--it's just member to member advice.

Come on guys! We can't let a handful (if that) of people do all the work every time. No pressure! ;) HINT HINT!! :ph34r
