Don't know if this has been posted yet, but man, what a tragic event!

I wonder if they could have cut the corals and tossed them back under the water. Maybe it would have jump started the development of another reef.

yes they were. But i dont think they realize what effect losing that reef will have on the ecosystem around that island much less the economy
