i have a question and i hope its not stupid because i have been reading and some people have done it but can I put a 175 watt bulb in my coralife advanced clip on light with the 150 watt ballast??

Not likely. If it does light up, then it probably won't be the color that it should, and it may not stay lit. And there's the possiblity that it would ruin the ballast. Even mixing different brands of lights/ballast produces changes in the light output.

AND, putting a higher wattage bulb in a lower wattage ballast won't make it brighter. Since a ballast is used to create the energy to run the bulb it's different than the bulbs you use in your lamps. Now a 150w bulb in a 175w ballast will run brighter and can probably handle the few extra watts.

Actually some electronic ballast like the coral vue are made for 150 DE or 175 SE, just like some 400 watters will run lamps down to 320 watts The only reason I can find against it is the fixture is not UL Listed for what you are trying to do and it may lead to a mishap
