I finally have my new tank here in ATX. It is a 380g acrylic, used to be Z28's tank. The plan is to have about 800g of total water volume between sump, fuge, tank, and skimmer (holds about 20g itself). I still have some major purchases ahead.

One of those is: an OZONE GENERATOR

I'm unfamiliar with them. I've seen a few systems that run them and kind of understand the concept. It seems simple enough to me that a highly enriched O2 scavenges waste and oxidizes it quickly into another product that is easy to remove via skimmer. This generally equates to cleaner water with better parameters.

1. Do I want one? Do I really need one?

2. Will it cause me headache and heart break?

3. Do you like yours and do you feel that it does as claimed.

4. Please, any horror stories?

5. And finally, I know nothing about the brands and such. What brand do you run and why? What features impress you the most? I've seen 2 types, one that jumps an electrical spark and needs and air dryer to make that happen and another that uses a UV bulb. I'm not to keen on the technology used in the UV ozonizer but the life reported is around 10,000 hours for the bulb. That seems like a good value but does it really work?

Thanks. I have cash in hand and want to make this happen before I run off to the strip club instead. (Notice I did not say "waste my money at the strip club", as any money spent in a strip club is never wasted money.)

hmmm talk to Todd and see what brand he has used. They were really cheap and worked fairly well...better than the Red Sea and other 'expensive' ones on the market!

I remember Todd mentioning his, that was one of the ones I saw in use. I've been to Jose's so that must be what he was using as well.

Any idea as to what size? 500mgl or 1000mgl for a 400g tank with about 7-800 total water volume?

What exactly does the ad mean when it says, no gas exchange included? Does that mean I just need an air pump?

Upon further searches I found that injected pure O2 into the reactor produces a cleaner ozone, that's why some are sold without an air pump.

So what size to get is the only thing slowing me down from ordering.

You can always buy a larger unit and dial it down (if its got a dial) to the amount of ozone you need. Todd told me the ratio awhile back but I forgot to write it down :roll

John I haven't bought it yet. I kinda forgot. LOL. I got so busy picking up my ReefKeeperII and 2 Dart pumps that I forgot about the Ozone. From what I understand is that a few folks here have that brand and were very satisfied. Now that I remember, I'll go ahead and order it this week. Thanks for the reminder. Wanna see if we can get a discount on combined shipping?
