I have a couple large pieces of green star polyp that has stopped opening. Water paramaters test fine and every other piece of coral in the tank is doing better than it ever has. I've had this star polyp for a while and it has alway looked great.

When it did it's best I had it in a tank that had a pretty good fish load but did not run a skimmer on the tank. My new tank has a pretty good skimmer on it. Is there something that the skimmer is taking out that the star polyp needs?

Both pieces are placed under MH lighting different parts of the tank in areas that have a pretty good flow.

Thanks

have you added any chemicals? Essential elements?

Sometimes they just do not open for a period of time.

Have any fish or inverts touched them? That will cause them to stay closed for awile.

They also take longer than many other corals to adjust to any changes in water parameters.

I hope that this is all that is wrong with them.

have not added any chemicals. That is kind of the direction I've been thinking and why I asked if the skimmer could be taking someting out that the polys needed. I've never had to add anything before and they were doing great . I'm thinking the skimmer may be the issue.
