I know people use a pump to move water from the new water bin (trash can) to the tank or sump. I would like to know the best way to do this. I have an extra pump. Do I just buy some long tubing connect it to the pump and put on the bottom of the bucket and pump the water to my sump? I only do 5 gallon water changes but I don't want to pour the bucket of water directly into the tank. Any help would be appreciated. The pump is the stock pump from the aquapod. I think it's a 1/2" fitting.

yeah just go to HD or Lowes and get you some 1/2"(same size as the output) and hook it up and turn on the pump. That is what I do with the stock pump I have and works great might have to put a zip tie on the pump side so it doesn't come off but as long as you don't keep the tubing attached to the pump it wont strech out to much. That is what I do. I got tired of hauling buckets around. Better yet, I have a 20 gallon water change tank inline with the sump. I simply pump the water out of it and then refill by pumping water from the garage....turn on the powerhead that supplies the tank...and presto. The water change takes me about 5 minutes.

Be sure you have a pump that has enough head pressure to push water up to the top of your container.

I have a 55 gal drum and first tried to use a small Rio pump that I had as a spare. When the water level got to about 5 gallons, the pump would only push water to the top of the barrel, but not over the top.

I use a Maxi-Jet with a 1/2 tube on it. Drop it in the sump to empty it, then drop it in the water barrel to refill the sump.

Same here as jroescher. I have an old ugly maxijet 1200 that gets the job done.
