Hello all, I just joined your site and I must say I am very impressed. Also I will be paying my dues very soon to help the cause. This is my first posting here and I am looking forward to conversing with my fellow reef enthusiast. My question is does it really make a huge difference where to place the overflow box(s). I have recently purchased a 240 gallon tank and I will have the manufacturer drill and install the overflow, but I wanted to see what you guys think. Either two in the corners or one long one in the middle. Let me know, thanks for the help.

Welcome to MAAST!
As for the overflows, I think it is more a personal preference as to the placement of them. I have to say that I like the calfo style overflow, the one that runs longways at the top of the tank.

I like the calfo also even though my current tank has corner overflows. Since that was the design when I got them I just deal wit it.
Welcome to the site and looks like you are extremely close to me and a couple of others on hear. I'm just off of Redland just north of 1604 if you ever need help with anything.

I echo Cliff's comment. I have a Calfo on one end of my 215 - it's a "see thru" tank. This just does an OUTSTANDING job of replacing the surface film. The tank originally had 2 overflows, not in the corners, but towards the ends. I cut them out and I use the overflow holes for 2x1200 gph closed loops. My sump return is at the other end of the tank, and it's 1800gph. Then I have 2 - 2600gph Seios. Total is 9400gph.

Like Cliff, I'm very close to you, Encino Park, and you are welcome to come by and check out my mistakes!

my 240 has them in the end because it is a room divider. i second - or third or whatever the calfo style overflow. saves floor space in the tank. i am off of stahl between judson and oconnor, so not too far from you. you are welcome to come by and see how i did things to get some ideas.

My 240 has the Calfo style overflow, and I love it. I definetely vote for the Calfo......

I just wanted to say thank you for all of the responses. I feel in good hands with everyone here and plan to learn a lot. I guess as being the new kid on the block posting some photos of my 75 gallon should be in order so I will display them soon (will update with 240 when it is delivered and set up). Thanks again for the warm welcome and looking forward to attending some of the upcoming events.
Thanks again - James

This weekends should be a great one if you can make it. From what I hear this tank is incredible and the frag swap should be a blast. I may hopefully pick up some small zoos for my nano that I can tansfer to the big tank once it's up and going.

if you don't go calfo, i would recommend placing 2 OF's in the middles of the end panes. that way it could be a room divider; now or later. oh, and welcome to the club!

[quote="brewercm"]This weekends should be a great one if you can make it.

I just read your meeting schedule and noticed I have no idea where this location is. Right now I am waiting for paypal to complete its 3 business days for my funds to go through so that I can send them to the treasurer. So if someone could fill me in on where and what time your metting is I would greatly appreciate it.
Almost forgot I think the Calfo is a great idea, but I really want to be able to have the tank as flush as possible with the wall. With the good points provided by everyone I think I will drill and mount the long box in the center and have the returns coming out of both sides as well as using powerheads on the far ends of the tank. With the tank having two euro braces the center is open leaving room to work. Thanks again everone for the input and I hope to meet you this weekend. James
