I have a 150 thats stocked with Lots of LR, Corals and 3 fish - a copperband, Sohal Tang, and Lawnmower Blenny and a great big sea hare.
About 1 wk ago the copperband died, I think it was a combination of it not eating anyhing but those little tubeworm feather duster things and the Sohal beating the living daylights out of it... chased the poor thing all the time... (i tried catching it but i couldnt)..
Soo now, yesterday i noticed the Sohal wouldnt swim around as much and stayed right up at the top of the tank swimming "up current" facing one of the returns... he didnt look to good but was still eating.. this morning i found him against some rocks and he was completly UPSIDE DOWN but still alive... the tank is to tall and to much rockwork to reach him....
So now i get home from work and i cant find him?!?!? i did a major water change.... moved lots of the rocks and corals, looked with mirrors behind everything and he is NOWHERE to be found.. i even checked the overflow the sump everything but nothing.. is this something i should be concerned about? I tested the water before the waterchange and these were the readings:
Ph: 8.4 - 8.6
Nitrate: 0
Nitrite: 0 - 0.05
Ammonia: 0
Salinity: 1.025
Temp: 81.6

soooo what could have happened? any ideas?
should i be concerend about it being dead somehwere in an area i cannot see? ohh and the Lawnmower blenny and the sea hare look fine.. still eating and none of the corals look funny either...
im confused what should i do?

any advice would be much appreciated...

was this a large fish? i'd keep a close eye on ammonia, and keep looking for the fish. be prepared to run some carbon( in a canister filter if possible). but, you really want to get the fish out of there if it does die. you didn't say what kind of corals you had, but few, if any, will tolerate ammonia.

Thelma, find the Sohal, if died it needs to be removed before it creates more problems, and if a live at leat you can judge his status

good luck

so how long now has it been missing? i'm a bit concerned about an NO2 reading and zero NO3 reading.. i would test daily until its found your your sure it has been consumed and there is no danger of a mini cycle... these are times when i nice large healthy fuge is worth its money

Is there a chance that he died and the clean-up crew has already done their job? My scooter blenny died on Monday and by the time I noticed in the afternoon, my hermits were already finishing up. Only his head was left. The snails ate up the scraps. It was sad, but that's the cycle of things I guess. Now my scooter blenny was probably much much smaller than your fish was, but I'm just throwing out the possibility.

How long would it take to affect anything anyway? I know my sohal is pretty fat for only being 4-5".

depends on total volume of water, the more water the more time you have to deal w/ it
