some of you might remember me some of you probably dont so let me get to the point :P
back in feb of last year some one broke into my home stole all my stuff, all of which didnt matter after i saw what they did to my tank, they poured a whole gallon of chlorox bleach into my pride and joy, my 29 gallon softie tank, it was my 1st real reef tank and i had just figured out how to manage it properly (water quality and so on) I put so much time and effort into it that after that happened i all but gave up on the hobby

http://i7.tinypic.com/302bexy.jpg

well here i am a year later and it looks like i got bitten by the reef bug yet again, ive had to start off from the beginning again, the reef is now a goldfish tank and all my the stuff that went with it "sump, skimmer, pumps and so on some how disappeared after sold my house all i have left is about 50lbs of base rock
well heres where i need you (the maast community)

im going to start a new softie tank with in the next couple of months and i need your help in planning this sucker so far this is all ive got

im thinking instead of a 29 maybe something around 45-55 gallons with a built in overflow

36 inch 4x 96W Compact Fluorescent Retrofit Kit - hellolights

5 or 10 gallon sump

ASM G-1X In-Sump Skimmer w/pump - not sure if this is any good because im upgrading from a cpr bakpak

im gonna need as much input as possible because this time i plan on doing things right the first time around - also if any of you would be willing to let me buy a few cups of sand to kick start this project id really appreciate it

Good to see you back in the saddle. I'll be begining a new tank myself starting this weekend. Moving from a 100 to a 140 so a little more swimming room for them tangs.

Good luck and let us know what you need help with. BTW, I have a small sump for sale that could work for you in the for sale section. I need to get the dimensions tonight on it.

My substrate is crushed coral, but you are more than welcome to some. If you are trying to use a finer grade of sand, you could just put it with some rubble to get things hopping. I may actually have a couple of pieces of rubble rock and some blue leg hermits, too.

Also, I can help you out with some softy frags when you are ready. Oh, and LOTS of green grape caulerpa! :P

I'm in Austin, but if you come to the next meeting, I can get some of this stuff to you.

What a horrible thing to do (bleach in your tank)! Was it someone that had it in for you? Did they ever get the people that did it?

Welcome back!

I'm glad to hear you're back into it. But wow, that's horrible. Bleach in the tank?! I'd be out for blood if someone did that to me.

Wow. At that point, I'd just replace the whole thing. I HATE my Coralife unit - I've replace about 75% of it with one from www.aquasafecanada.com. I'm MUCH happier with my 2-1/2 year old unit from them.

If you are interested in splitting up the cost we can order a case lot of the pre filters. This comes with the below for $74.95 enough for three changes each for a 3 pre-filter setup like mine, or if someone else wanted to get in it would be two each and the price would only be $25 each. They also have the RO membrane for $49.95 if you would need it also. PM me if you'd be interested, if not I may see about setting up a group order.

6- High capacity sedimentary filters (SED)
6- High capacity granular activated coconut carbon (GAC) filters
6- High capacity coconut carbon block filters (CCB)
3- In line Post Carbon filters (PC), if you use for drinking water also like we do
