Just thought I would share some pics of my new, used tank. lol Added liverock, sand, and water this morning. Pics were taken about 30 minutes after I added the water. I used 12lbs of liverock, has about a 1.5" sandbed(which is now moved around by water flow) maxijet 900 replaced the original pump(only mod so far will add rubble to one of the back chambers). I will be adding more pics in the weeks to come. Plan on adding about 5 more pounds of liverock probably tonga branch or some thing other type of branch liverock.
My plan is to add one fish a small shimp and mainly ricordia mushrooms and zoas. Not the best pictures but not the best camera either. lol
Enjoy

its the 12g actually only holding 10g with the sand and liverock. I hope to have some frags in a couple of months or so.
Here are some clearer shots from this morning.

Thanks Thunderkat, cbianco, and Mattk. I am going to have to get some loc-line to fix the return there to get better flow in the back but other then that the 900 does a great job.

some guy in Corpus cannot remember who now. lol Thanks thought it looked good for the one day I have had it now. I hope to add about 5lbs of tanga branch to round out the liverock and in about a month I will add a cleanup crew. By then there should be enough algea for them to eat.

What kind of sand is that? It looks really fine. Do you have coralline on any of the live rock?

I got the sand last year from Chad in Bastrop not sure but I think it is the hope depot stuff but I am not sure. I like the fineness of the sand but it does need some courser stuff IMO. There is a little purple but there is a lot of line green coralline on it. I am sure in the next month or so there will be more for sure.

ok I did some test this mrning for the heck of it. I know it is to early to get a true reading I thought it wouldn't hurt either.
pH 7.8 low I know going to go get some buffer today
Ammonia 0
Nitrite undetectable
Nitrate undetectable
Alk only 75ppm or 1.5mEq/l
Will have to adjust soon. But for only three days into it I know I cannot trust the results just yet. I am still going to wait until April to add a clean up crew. Then in May I will add a fish or corals

You should be getting the diatoms soon. Being patient is definitely the best way to go. Try to mix some live sand with that stuff you have if you can find it. That's what I did with mine. I bought 10 lbs of live sand from Finaddict and mixed it with the regular stuff. Can't wait to see the progress!!

How's the tank coming along?

Well I have been out of the house for 9 days at a livestock show here in the Rio Grande Valley, however the tank is coming along nicely. Noticed a lot of new feather dusters and the diatoms and hair algea is growing good. Did a routine tests today and they came out good:
pH 8.2
Specific Gravity 1.022
Nitrate undetecable
Nitrite undetecable
Alk 6.30 dKH
Temps are 78 night and 80 during the day
I will have to clean the glass before I snap some pics but nothing to look at right now with all the diatoms and algea. I am going to give it at least a month before I add a clean up crew but I might have to add a little early if the algea keeps growing( not all that bad but it is growing) I will go get a magnet cleaner and clean the glass and take a few update pics later this week.

Here is a small update pic of the feather dusters only inhabitants at this point but I am thinking I am needing a CUC really soon. Algea is growing good almost to good and the diatoms are going as well. Any way here is the pic.

Update sorry no photos this time. Things are going great. I was hoping to get up to SA area to get some snails but my trip got canceled so I had to get some locally :cry what a dent in the pocket book so I only got 2 astraea's for now. I am hoping to get up to SA on May 1st, or 2nd and pick up some nassarius and cerith snails as well and possibly a few frags of zoas or rics.

I just saw them the other day and finally got a decent pic of them. I need to find a good camera that takes good macro shots. Anyway here they are. I am going to have to make a fuge in one of the rear chambers as the astraea's are going to take the HA there in the pics out and the pods will need another place to hide. Oh I like it, natural fish food for a firefish or clown.

When are you going to put in the clean up crew?
dwdenny
Wed, 18th Apr 2007, 08:43 PM
got two astraea's right now in there. I was supposed to go to College Station this Friday and I was going to pick some up from oceanhomesetc.com but the trip was canceled so I had to pay the God offal price down here as Allen's(Borneo) was not open on Monday and the last time I was in there he had only hermits. I am planning to be in Brownwood on May 1st & 2nd so I was hoping to get a chance to stop around SA to get 5 nassarius and 5 cerith snails from some where probably CB's sense that is the area I will be in on the way back through. I hope things go as planned.

Took that offending rock out for a nice sun bath for a couple of weeks to kill off the HA. Any way here are a couple of pics of some new rocks and a couple of Zoas I got from Barry(beareef19). Great guy to get great stuff from. Enjoy
