heres a dumb question
i just installed a retrofit kit that didn't have any instructions (pretty much came prewired, my question is where the heck do i connect the ground wire (its an orange wire) can i connect it to the canopy via a screw or does it have to be connected to a metal surface (kinda like when you install an amp in your car)

Are you sure the orange wire is ground? Most ground wires are green. And thats not a dumb question at all...... The ground wire would need to be connected to a grounded source like the center screw on an a/c outlet or any other source that is positively grounded.

Idealy, youd want to solder an extention to it then wire nut it, but simply wire nutting it would work. Just make sure the extention is the same guage wire.

Actualy, now that I re-read my post, soldering then shrink wrapping would be the ideal way to go in this situation.
