First of all I want to apologize because I am sure this topic has been mentioned before but I was unable to find exactly what I needed. My question is trying to get the surface film removed on my AP 24. I would like to change out just the one stock pump if possible. Please any suggestions woud be very helpful.

Try dropping an airstone in there.

A Tunze 6025 would certainly perk things up pretty well.

Matt you don't think that would be too much? It puts out 660 GPH and mine is at 290 GPH. I don't want to have too much flow.

My tank is only like 22 inches across, I have a mag 5 for a return 500 gph, a rena filstar xp2 (running with carbon) 300 gph, and a seio 820 at 800 gph. I have some fish in there, it's primarily fish, and I just set up the pumps to make a circular water flow throughout the tank. You'd probably just need to adjust it so it's not blowing stuff around.

The 6025 is made for small tanks; probably it would not be too much. It's tough to compare the way these pumps look with regular powerheads in terms of GPH, because the flow is much more dispersed. If you put your hand in front of a 6025 it feels like less force than a maxijet.

I have a Seio M620 in a 20g cube. It's about the same rating. I'd run the Tunze though as they looik much nicer.

www.nano-reef.com is the website to find these answers.
1)I would recommend a maxijet 900 or 1200.
This is what I have AP12 and a small rio
2)Try closing the lower intake vents that will force the water to go through the surface skimmer. It worked on the AP12 for me.

I replaced the stock pump in the AP12 with mj900 and covered the bottom intake with a piece of acrylic to force the water to flow through the surface overflow. I have not had a problem with sufce scum at all but it has only been set up for a few hours. lol When I pick this one up from you I told you about the via aqua pumps. You will have to measure the pump area on the 24 but it was like 4.25"X3.0" or so check out marinedepot.com under powerheads then via aqua. here it is http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=VA2715 I know it wont fit in the 12 but it might fit in te 24. It would give you more flow that is for sure. Or you could try the new hydor pump that would add alot of flow with little wattage.

I get the surface scum when my filter needs to be cleaned or changed. As soon as I fix it, the scum goes away.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and bought a MJ 1200. That seems to be the safe way to go.
