Setting up a little 29g tank and need to find a hang on skimmer. I'm used to bigger tanks so I'm a bit unfamiliar with small skimmers. I know the Red Sea Prizms seem to get poor reviews so I think the only other main choices are the Remora and the Bak-Pak skimmers. Which is the better of those two? Are there any other small hang-on skimmers that would be good for a 29g? I'm leaning towards a FOWLR tank for now.

I like the Remora and the Bak-Pak. Remora is my favorite. If it is just FOWLR you can also run a hang on filter like a penguin, just change the carbon pads on a regular basis.

Nope... I tuned the new Prizm pro deluxe and now it's pulling out 40 oz sludge per day... the dark nasty gunk. THe old prizm pulls 12 oz per day in on my 55 gallon.

I haven't used one but you might also look into the Coralvue HOB's. Basically a BakPak but with a needlewheel pump.

I tried the impeller mod on my prizm pro, and it did not work. I followed the directions to the "t", as posted on another thread by 5.0stang, but to no avail. I have ordered a new impeller, which should arrive later this week.... I would recommend the remora, as so many people are thrilled with its performance....Wish I had spent my $$ on that instead of the prizm......

I think some1 else posted the prism pro mod not me i saw it also i didnt do that i just raised the skimmer as high as i could so the water its getting it the top 2 inches of the tank then i stuffed polyfiber in the water output of the skimmer to make more contact time in the reaction chamber. Im about to post a thread about it i was just makin sure it really works.

I'm not a fan of the remora; the prizm works fine for really small tanks; if it were me I'd take Richard's suggestion and have a look at the coralvue, or maybe there's a $1000 deltec.

Yeah, thats it.... the pad on the impeller restricted water flow, hence no pump action.... Waste of a good impeller IMO..
