snails everywhere

my tank is about 10 months old and i am noticing LOTS of tiny snails...is my cleanup crew reproducing or am i in for an infestation of some kind

Well what you want to do is get some q-tips and a flashlight... :lol

They are probably hitchhikers and not your clean up crew snails reproducing. Most are desirable but I have seen peppermint shrimp eat the tiny ones so if your looking for a control they might help. A small wrasse like a sixline might help keep them in check also.

I had some trochus snails in my 20 gallon that eventually started reproducing. I was probably removing around a dozen snails a day until I got rid of the parents. I just kept an eye on all the tiny snails and watched them as they grew to make sure they were just the cleaners and not a hitchhiker.

I got hitchhiker stomatella snails at one point and those things reproduce like rabbits, but they were good for the tank and I'm sure the fish kept them somewhat in check.

Do you not like the look of having so many snails or are you worried about them harming other stuff in your tank? Take a pictures and post it up so we can see what we're dealing with.

I have a big growing population of tiny snails. It went from a couple, to 20, to 40 to tons of them now. They dont harm any thing and usually just munch on algae and wonder on the sand bed. Your snails might do the same thing. Watch them for a while.

thanks for the advice i do have a peppermint shrimp and will look into a wrasse i was thinking about one anyway i dint even really mind them they mostly come out at night i just wanted to be sure they were not harmful

do make sure they aren't sundial snails. those guys would have a feast in a reef tank.

I miss my stomatellas from my tank when I was in San Antonio, I have been looking all over the place for places that sell Stomatella varia online but haven't found any yet. I would like to be able to get my hands on about 20 stomatellas and 20 micro stars before I start up my 30 g nano. I have seen places that sell the micro stars but they are either expensive or they throw them in bundles that include bristle worms (some people think they are good but I hate them).

Would love to get a good bundle of stomatellas, micro stars, and spaghetti worms for a good price. I had more fun watching them than I did looking at the fish and corals :lol

I should make a post on that.
