I am contemplating starting my first nano and looking at the 24g JBJ.
My desire is to have a pair of seahorses and maybe a few other fishes.
What species should I look at of seahorses and what other fish could I also put in there?

I always thought fish and sea horses are a no-no cause the fish will eat the horses food cause the horses are slow eaters

I have 4 horses in my 55. With a green chromis (can't catch), a yellow tang, a CBB, 2 small gobies, 2 mandarins, a lawnmower blenny and a bunch of corals. They are slow eaters, but hold their own and keep making babies. The tang is temporary.

I had 2 pair of seahorses in a 40 with a tiny (quarter size) sailfin tang up until he got to be about 3 in and was moved out. I think my seahorses were more aggressive eaters than the sailfin tang!

24ga is to small for SH, unless you are talking dwarfs, and then is a little to big :)

Jose IS the expert... Jose, I remember having dwarfs about 35 years ago, when they sold them out of the back of comic books.

Also, check out seahorse.org. There is a list of possible tankmates under "library", plus LOTS of other good info.

I have a 75 gallon reef with a orange shouder tang, sebae clown, a few chromis, and a pink bar goby. Would two SH go with this bunch?

The standard answer is a big NO. I know people have kept them successfully in full blown reefs with those types of fish and higher current/ligthing/temps/etc. but more often than not it won't work out. However in your case Mark, I KNOW the seahorses would just be a tasty expensive treat for that big carpet anemone.

Richard,
Tell me again why I keep that pesty carpet anemone. I placed the anthias in the tank and he went behind the rock where the carpet is and go to close to the edge and became entangled. I was able ot break him away but he was not looking so hot. He went behind the rocks and I have a feeling the nematocysts claimed him for paralysis and will die.

I don't know. I've hated him ever since I had to pull him out of your leaking tank bare handed - OUCH! It woke me up though LOL.

GET RID OF THE CARPET! I have 3 anenomes, and 2 clowns. My true clown lovesssssssssss its sebae (he bites me when i feed it) and my maroon loves his pink tip anenome.!.!

You could just get a different type of anemone and your clowns would probably adopt it after awhile. Maybe something that stays on the sand like an LTA. So it could go in the place of the carpet but won't eat half of the fish and shrimp you buy.

I've had good success with my 2 brazilian seahorses with 2blk clowns, green mandirin and a dwarf lion sm. The horses and mandirin were easly trained to eat out of the net w/ no fish bothering them at all in a 24g.
