I'm sooooo happy, I'm getting a new Skimmer that I've been waiting for a while. Some people hate them, some love them. For me I used the smaller one for 5 yrs with no complaints!!! So it's time to upgrade to the pro series!!!! Been bidding on it on ebay.com and Won!! Brand new!! 120.00 Not to name any stores.... hint hint by northcross mall wanting this same one for 249.99 <--- Um.. I'm not rich or slow..lol

I'm also going to try the fish string on the propeller to increase the bubbles. Have a friend that tried it in Houston and swear it works. I believe him bc he has a 200 gallon sps tank and his setup is " SICK".

I'm using the small one right now on my 135 gallon . I like them bc less noise and I don't have a sump. Worked great for 5 yr and going strong.

Never used one before a friend had a smaller one on his 20 gal and it did a decent job.

Those links always do that. It must be accessing your system cache. Oh well, nothing Microsoft makes is ever perfect cause it works just fine in Firefox. -SoLiD

All Prizm skimmers are junk. Sorry. I've seen nice Euroreef 80g skimmers on Ebay for $120 new.

Well that's your opinion, I never had a problem and friends that use bigger skimmer and prism pro that got the same amount of waste out of the tank. I have 86 corals in my main tank and it's a 135G to look for a skimmer for 80 gallon, thats another pointless comment. Thanks for your input Mike but I pass.lol I'm happy, and going to mod it to get finer bubbles!!! Woohooo getting it very soon!!! hopefully tuesday.

Someone did a meshweel mod on RC. They showed some before and after pics. The performance definitely improved with it.

It's not a pointless comment if an 80g ER skimmer will work circles around the best Prizm. Your "buddy" Kyle just had his crap out and it was less then a year old. If you could have bought a better skimmer for the same amount of money, it's not my fault if you didn't. Why do you think those people on all the other forums are looking for ways to make their Prizm's work better in the first place? because they don't work well at all. then you make the comment that the first thing you are going to do is rework the impeller. Why buy somehting you have to modify to get to work correctly? So I do not see your point.

The only complaint I've heard about prizms is that they need frequent adjustment. Here's the link to the guy's mod if your interested. Seems pretty simple, although if I were doing it I think I would just use the fishing string mod to turn it into a needlewheel skimmer.

Joseph,

Glad you got the skimmer you wanted. I used to have that same skimmer, which worked well most of the time. Please take my advice and run it in sump if you can. Even though I had a hose on the 'drain' port in the collection cup my skimmer flooded the place a few times. Not a pretty scene. Maybe I did something that caused it to flood the place, don't know.

My solution was simple. I got a great deal on a used EuroReef. No comparison between the two. The ER pulls at least four times as much crud out of the tank. The difference blew me away.

Good luck with your Prizm Pro.

Well, since I mess with the tank all the time and if I have to adjust it I don't mind. My friend is using it in his 200 gallon SPS tank and it has been doing great. They were bored and mod the wheel with fish string to compare to one of the other guys big skimmer after reading the Reef central forum. It pulled a little less than the monster skimmer is was going again with the mod that only cost pennies. It's all depends on the person and the skimmer. I have alot of free time to tweek and make it work better .I'm a reek junkie so I always look at all my stuff and anal about cleaning out the cup half way full. Thanks for the heads up on the overflow. I'll make a clip to lock in the top. I don't have a sump, I don't have alot of things, but my coral grow fast and so are the new SPS. I just didn't appreciate Mikes rudeness about the skimmer when he thinks he's a pro at everything. Give suggestions and ideas like a gentleman not a kid. I'm happy and that all that matters right? Right..Hey Ed that cool that you are in cedar park, I'm also in the area. If you don't mind I would like to see your tank and get some suggestions and ideas from it.

It's not the first time you've called me rude. It won't be the last time either. It's just how you interpret me. Oh well. BTW I could have gotten you that skimmer in Austin for $99 new had I known you were looking for one.

OK. If you don't want the hookups from here on out I won't help. But several of the tanks in town you've seen have been hooked up with huge discounts through me. I coulda hooked you up with several wholesalers at that price, not retailers. Have it your way.

Joseph - I use to use the Prizm pro deluxe skimmer and I also flooded my house several times with it. When it floods it does it all at once with no prior warning. Be very careful with that skimmer. I had it on my overstocked 75G and it just didnt do a very good job. If you want my opinion on a cheap skimmer that out performs most others even the euroreef for the money is the coralife 220 super skimmer. I purchased mine for $159 at marinedepot. It isnt made of the best quality material but it is far better than the Prizm Pro. But all-in-all the prizm should perform ok for you.

I juat got my protein skimmer today and I must say !!! IT's awesome, I don't know why people don't like it , I surface skim my tank in 5 mins and the gunk after 6 hours is about 7 oz.... that is crazy!! It is reallllly dark greenish brown. I'm thinking that people that own it didn't know how to tune it, I messed with it for 15 mins after reading the directions. I must say the direction is stupid , I just pay close attention to everything and tuned it on my own. Now about the top over flowing, well if everything is correct then every three day I will have to clean it out rather than waiting to find a mess..lol . Bubbles were very fine without me moding anything , tomorrow I'm going to feed heavy on purpose and see this baby do it's magic... I'm a believer in the product rather than taking peoples "hear say". Thank you for the positive advices and warning, which I'm going to follow to prevent any problems... but I mess with my tank daily... and have time on my hands to make sure it works great!
