All the fish have died in the tank. All on the same day to. All my water parameters check out fine. Salinity is good. Temp is at 75. The only thing I can think of is this live rock I put in there. I bought cured at the LFS and it has been in there for about a week. Its not that mush either. There is some funny looking stuff on the rock and was wondering if that could have something to do with it. I think one is bubble algae not sure about the rest. I have no idea whats going on b/c everything checks out.

Was the live rock cured when you put it in your tank? Whats your ammonia at? Sorry about your fish...

I see sponges and bubble algae. That makes me think you got nice rock that was at least mostly cured. I'd say by the large amounts of cyano that that there is an excess of nutrients and I'd get the water checked elsewhere.

Sorry about the loss.

The tank has been up for about 1 1/2 month. I only had a clown fish and a goby.

Ya, the LR was cured. Ammonia is barely giving a reading. I stated the fish above....

So youre saying that theres detectable ammonia? What exactly is the reading and what test kit are you using?

Joshua is right - ESPECIALLY if the rock had any sponge growing on it. They rarely survive out of the water. Unless the rock was in one of their display tanks, I wouldn't trust it.

:( Sorry to hear about your fish dieing.

If it has been a whole week since the rock went in, its pretty odd that the fish die now. When we moved my brothers tank and the rock was moved around quite a bit and there was die off, when we put the rock in the tank, we had an immediate ammonia spike within 12 hours.

Is there any way that something could have been dropped in the tank?

with sensitive fish like a clownfish and a goby are put into a tank that young, any little spike could kill them,, these guys are right if you had ANY detectable amonia, then your tank was probably cycling,, take their advice and wait several weeks before adding more fish... and i might suggest starting with a more hardy fish just to be sure you are on the right track

Tis true about the die off from the short ride home. In Nov of '05 I brought some beautiful and fully cured rock from Alamo Aquatic (on a super mega discount). Since I didn't have a tank yet, I threw it all in a 10 gallon tank, put a CPR bak-pak on it, a heater, and monitored all the levels. It was only a 15 minute drive home and I sure enough got a sizable but quick spike. I "cured" the rock myself for about a month before moving it to my main tank (a 12 gallon aquapod), and then just to make sure I waited almost another month before adding fish. I think this is why everything's done so well. At least that's my theory. Patience seems to be the key with this hobby.

Unless you know the rock is coming from an established tank and goes directly into your tank it's always a good idea to let it cure before putting it in your display.

they all checked out zero's ammo-0ppm nitrite-Oppm Nitrate Oppm ph-8.1 These levels still hold the same to this day. symptoms of fish- Rapid breathing loss of appetite loss of color. I will wait a couple of more weeks before I try again though. Thanks.
