I put a small air pump on it and it handled it i dont know if it improved it much it was a wal-mart special 4.00 that i had lying around so it didnt pump much air in if some1 has a bigger one they should try it out!

Ok, I am rather dense when it comes to all of this...I could do this mod to a Maxijet, could I not? I bought a skimmer for my biocube from nanotuners.com, and it came with a POS Rio that is louder than hell, so I figured on replacing it, and the stock pump for the 'cube itself. LMK

the CSS uses a needlewheel which is what this mod is for. there may be a similar mod for a mj though

True i have heard of people putting small holes in their blades of their maxi and runnin fishing line threw it. It could work just dont put too big of holes and make a crazy design that will chop the bubbles real nice

As to the maxi jet, it sounds like your system is not a needle wheel impeller. It sounds as though it is an injection type skimmer. If so that means your air mixes behind the pump in the water stream, unlike needlwheels that inject the air before the pump. With a needle wheel the impeller actually chops up the bubbles, hence why makign a screen for it breaks them down even further. I don't see what the practical purpose would be for "tuning" the regular impeller on a MJ if the air mixes AFTER it.

Ok, is there an aftermarket, needle-wheel impeller pump or pre-impeller air-injection pump that I can get? I really don't know too much about the whole deal. I want to be bubbly by Sunday night.
