Anybody remember the Paletta talk at Sea World?
Its something that stuck with me and has really helped me find some nice pieces for cheap. Basically, Mike said not to always buy the super colorful acros because theyre alot more expensive and they will most likely brown out in your tank. Rather, you should look for healthy "brown" acros and see if you notice hints of color in them and pick those out b/c theyre cheaper and they will color up given your lighting.
Anybody seen caferacermike's awesome green/purple rim A. Efflorescens? That was sold to me, and I quote "Rust Brown Efflo" I knew better and it has colored up amazingly in his tank.
If you read in that thread, he said he got it at a LFS and it was browned out but he noticed a hint of blue and he got it for cheap because it was brown.

Holy ________ !

Just seems to me a bit like the "big buck" photos... Seems like SOMEONE else would have taken a photo... And that he would have fragged it to others for no other reason than to have emergency stock if he lost his.

I completely agree with not buying the high dollar stuff all the time. Some of my first corals were what I would look at for a while in a store, no one would buy them cause of the brown out but if you look really good you can tell a nice growth form, and the color is the icing on the cake. Those are the most special pieces and the ones that make you the most proud.

Agree, look at the coralline on the rocks. Check out Mike Paletta's pic:
