Can anyone help me locate a Base Rock Supplier/Wholesaler? I know that about ten years ago there was a company out of Texas that would deliver Base Rock to local pet stores in Oklahoma.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

Try posting this in the general reefkeeping section. Many posts go unnoticed in this forum.

What kind of "base rock" you looking for? I have access to literally tons of edwards limestone, or what some would call "Texas holy rock" (you know, the stuff thats full of holes)..... I have used lots of this as base rock, seeded it with a couple of pieces of Fiji live rock, and now you cant tell what is what.... All is covered in coralline algae after 3-4 mos... It is not Tonga branch, but it serves the purpose. Anyways, this 'holy rock' is from ancient sea beds, formed milleniums ago, calcium based limestone. If you want some, let me know.... Ranchers hate the stuff as it tears up tires....

Another option is to get someone that makes the Araga-Crete rock. There was a thread on here with some really nice pieces that had nice caves and everything made into it. This would work much better than the limestone (holey-rock) due to the density differenct. Take a look at this thread and see if it may be what you are looking for.

I keep seeing you guys post about this kinda concrete rock that can be made at home and placed in the tank. I think I saw Lonestar's thread and he was using it. I'm looking to place some rock in my sump and was looking to find out ow to make the stuff. Could someone post a link to it or something. I really appreciate it.

Hey Jeff, Todd (taldrich13) here on maast uses the above mentioned directions and he loves it. Also ou812pezz makes his out of oystershell and cement.

I made a big batch of DIY rock from directions I got from ou812pezz. I made ~160lbs for under $40 in materials. If you got the time (2.5 months), then you will come out ahead on the deal ;) I still got plenty of time building my system so this is an option I can try in the mean time. Plan is to make enough base rock and then cover it with live rock ontop. It just takes a long time because youhave to soak the DIY concrete rock in fresh water to bring to the pH level down. Then a few weeks of curing it in saltwater with some live rock.
If you got any questions ask the two fellas Tater mentioned above :lol They have more experience in it I'm sure. But I'll answer any questions you got. Or if you wanna swing on by the casa one night that could work too.

muratic acid can speed up the curing process, but i expect can weaken the rocks as well.
when I made my rocks, I bought these big blue tubs from walmart and filled them w/ a mix of crushed shells, southdown, and carib sea special grade. when I had my rock mixture all done up, is would apply the mixture in a pleasing way, and then add some sand, a dripple here, a dribble there, so on and so forth, always being sure that there were places where wet aragocrete touched.
in hindsight, I wish I had put in some 1/4 inch pvc or broken plastic clothes hangers for strength, because a lot of my cooll designs were to fragile and couldn't support the weight of another rock on top of them, (I probably had the mix off slightly as well)
anyhow, I only have one piece of it in my tank right now, and I don't think anyone can tell it's fake.
Oh, I also put in bits of spaghettie, and angel hair, and mixed in some epsom salts, all of which eventually dissolve (and once you wash out the sand) you get a very natural looking incredible bit of rock.
