I picked up some Ocellaris clowns yesterday. I got one a little bit bigger than the other hoping that they would pair up. Well, they haven't left each other's side since I put them in the tank. Is this a good thing?

I hoping that they will stay together, but somehow I think they're just sticking together until they are more used to their new home. (That would be my luck) The funny thing is that they were in two separtae tanks at the LFS.

Yeah, just give it some time. If they are staying together now it is a good sign. Even if they pair up they may still swim around separately. When I had a pair of true percs one would always stay in their host anemone and one would sometimes venture out to the rest of the tank.

Great! Since I'm off today, I think I'll try to get them to host in one of the anemones.

Tape a pic of a clown hosting in an anemone to the tan. Facing them of course. lol. For some reason it seems to work. I've read that time and time again. Also if you have a plastic clown place it near the anemone, it seems to trigger them. Most of our clowns are now tank bred and do not have the natural desire to host but will catch on very quickly.

My clowns got together from the beginning. I bought them at seperate times but literally, while i was still floating one clown in the bag the other wouldnt leave its side and they havent since. As far as anemones go, it took them a while to realize it was there but once they did they only left it alone to feed. I dont have it now and since they are pretty much the only thing in there that moves a lot i like it better that way cause they will actually swim around now. They have taken a liking to xenia too now so they get in there quite a bit. Just thought id share my experience. Good luck to ya

Mike, I can see you in a Clown suit, swimming back and forth in an Anemone, going "See, just like this..." LMAO!

I've tried putting them in a plastic goldfish bowl, and then turning the bowl upsidedown to cover the anemone. This way, they are forced to hover around the anemone. Every once in a while, they will actually touch a tentacle or two. I want them to learn that it's okay for them to touch it, but they just don't get it yet.

I'm thinking of drilling some holes in the plastic fishbowl so that I can leave them it there for a longer period of time. I'm just worried that they won't get enough oxygen and the anemone isn't getting enough flow with out the holes.

Good idea or bad?

(BTW, Mike, I now have 3 different pics of clowns in an anemone taped to the tank. I don't think that's working Can I borrow your fish suit?)

Since clowns need to build up a tolerance for each anemone I wonder if they are getting stung while trapped in the bowl?
