I had a coral beauty that picked my derasa to death. But I also had a squamosa and a crocea it never touched (all 3 were side by side). So I guess these are hit or miss... Plus I also overfeed so it wasn't hungry (or at least from what I could tell).

depends on the individual. i've heard it varies somewhat with species. i've always had good luck with flames.

Im very tempted to try a flame. I tried a cherub and had some luck with him for awhile until I added a new clam. He picked that thing all day so I had to remove it.

The cherub I had only nipped the new clam after I added it. It never touched any of my other ones. Overall it was a good fish, put up a good fight when trying to remove him.

I've had a cherub, a flame, and an emperor together for about 6 months and I've never seen the cherub or the flame nip at a clam or at anything else, though the flame used to chase the coral beauty I had almost every time he saw him. I moved the coral beauty to another tank because of his decision to start picking on softies. I'm fairly sure the emperor is going to wear out his welcome someday, too. Point is, the cherub has been a model citizen.

I had a pygmy angel for awhile and I found my tangs picked more at my clams than anything else. I think it all varies on the individual fish and also by how well fed you keep them.

Very true Chris, I had a beautiful coral beauty before that never bothered anything other than picking on new fish and setting out territory rights.l

if you do try one of these angels, you might think about feeding the fish enough to keep it full so it's not attracted to the clam thinking of food. Centropgye angels are really picking at the mucus the clams mantle has.
