Here is a the NH3/N2 composition of different salt mixes compared to natural sea water.

The above is from article published in Journal of Aquariculture and Aquatic Science.

How accurate or up to date is this information? Is there any other corroborating information to support their finding?

Thanks,
Rohn

How old is this data? The reason why I ask is because Kent is not made by Instant Ocean anymore. Also I thought Red Sea salt was dehydrated natural sea water?

I believe 1992 ... not sure. That is why I want confirmation and a up to date info, if anyone has any.

Maybe someone out there in MAASTard land can answer this one: Is sea water and ocean water the same? To clarify does the water from the Red Sea, Sea of Cortez, Sea of Japan, Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean have the same properties and chemical make up? So when someone says there salt matches natural seawater what does that mean? Sorry about the hijack Rohn, but if we are going to compare synthetic salts to natural seawater I would like to know what area the natural seawater the test is coming from?

You have a valid point. For example, Red Sea water would have very high Ca and Mg content.

This particular research was done by 2 guys at the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology and funded by U of Hawaii. So I would assume they used the sea water from the Pacific Ocean.

I tripped over this one this morning, not exactly on the same topic but I think a good comparison because we always think natural seawater as perfect?
