I am a newbie at this but while I was gone for the holidays my sump went out and the temp dropped in my tank so I got my sump up and running and trying to get the temp back up to 78. Meanwhile my copperband is swimming back and forth on the same side of the tank for the last 6 hours and its never done this before. If this is normal than great but if not could this be a early sign of ich due to the temp drop or something else.

It definitly sounds stressed and ich can take host to stressed fish. Look at the fish at night a good while after the lights have been out and also early in the morning before the lights come on. If you see white spots it has ich.
How low did the temperature get? Did any other water parameters change like salinity, alk, etc?
Is it eating? How are your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels?
Just checking things that may have led to the stressing of the fish and what may need attention.

The temp dropped from 78 to 72 but all the other water paremeters were good and I checked him this morning and he is not swimming like that anymore and doesnt have any spots but I am going to keep watching him. He seems to be eating just fine.

That is a good bit of a temp drop if it occured within one day, if it was longer it would be less traumatic. Anyway, the fish sounds like it should make it, if it's eating well and swimming more normally that is a good sign!
