i've been looking around a bit and on RC the ATI bubble master has been getting great results.(bubble king results). has anyone else looked at them. I should have looked at them better at Macna.

150 is $399 rated for 100g to 150
200 is $529 rated for 200g+

and i didn't ask about the 250.

what are your thoughts on this skimmer.

I've seen the thread on those on RC. They look like a cookie cutter (almost) to a bubble king. What pump do they use? And are they in sump only or can they be run externally?

What size tank are you going to run it on? If it performs up to a bubble king, you may get a good skimmer. But you never know with cheaper knock offs.....

Are they for sale yet or is it still in its 'beta' stage?

And yes I answered your question with a question(s) :lol

they are for sale.

not sure what pump they run but it's is 13wt. I know the beta's have been running ehiams but not sure what is on the v2 units. they are internal only for now. with an external one comming in a few months.

I was looking into getting one of the 250's but I heard the wait is long and unpredictable.

anyone here running a reef octopus skimmer??

I have been running my NW150 on my 90 gallon tank for a little over a month and it is really pulling out a lot of crud. Much more than the POS I had before. I emptied the cup today and after 3 days it had over a cup of crude. The smell was so bad I almost barfed. I am very happy with it and for the price you can't beat it.

Yep I run the octopus 200 nw. Love it. I did do some modifications to it but from what I understand it works good without the mods.

The only mod I did to mine was to put a ball valve on it. It runs great out of the box.

I was looking at them as well. They seem huge compared to the tank ratings. Their 150 or so gallon skimmer looks like a 250g skimmer from anyone else.

IMO- overal size is not a good representation of skimmer quality. instead R&D along with pump efficiency and performance indicate a skimmers quality....

GM I hear what you are saying but think of it like this, I'm getting a 400g tank early this year. I have only 26" of stand to work with. If I can get a Deltec that fits in the stand rated for a 500+g tank or if I buy a GIANT Octopus for a 100g tank.......... So yes it does make a difference to some of us. The one I was looking at was rated for like a 150g tank and would not fit under my stand. Many other well designed skimmers that are much more efficient will.

Here's another possibility that might help if you can do it. You could always run two skimmers that could fit under your stand, of course then you can have to deal with two pumps etc.

Cliff I have all sorts of possiblities. I was only pointing out that the Octopus skimmers are very large for their rated size. to me, IMO, that is a sign of not being very efficient. That was my only point. As in, I'd rather have a more efficient, more compact skimmer under my stand. Nothing more than that. It's not my problem since I won't be buying one. I just wanted to point out that they seemed ridiculously large and that could be a major deciding factor for this buyer. I was only making the comparison to my tank to make a point that indeed size can be a factor.
