Best method of transfering stuff to another tank?

Im about to slightly upgrade from a 30 gallon to a 55 gallon tank here in the next week. Whats the best way to do this? What problems have y'all run into when doing something like this and whats something i need to watch out for. Thanks in advance :D

I would use my hands and pick up what I wanted to move and carry it to the new tank. :P

I have always had good luck moving livestock from tank to tank. I do my best to keep all of my tanks at the same parameters so moving things aroud is easy. If you have a difference in temperature, salinity or other then you can treat the move like any purchase from your LFS. Use a bag and go through normal acclimation. When setting up a new tank I always try to move as much rock, sand and water from an established tank to help kickstart the new tank.

it's always a good idea to run some carbon for a week or so following a move, just in case there's any die off of the rock.

last time I switched tanks it was from a nanocube to a 30g so there wasnt very much live stock.What I did was set up my new tank with the exact same parameters as the old tank.The same sg the same temp the same ph.After that i took all the livestock out of my old tank put it in a bucket.Then I too the old liverock and used it to aquascape along with my new rock.It took like 10-15 min. when I was happy with it I installed the livestock where I wanted.HTH

When I went from 75 to 100 gal I just bought a couple big tupperware storage containers from Wal Mart and seperated everything by livestock and rock. Keep a heater because the temp drops fast. Start with a couple gallons of make up water in each, then use as much of your tank water as possible and distribute it through the containers and the new tank. If you have one of those little pumps that sucks water off the floor it comes in handy to drain your water. Or you can just use a tank pump with a hose attached. It's easier in the tupperware containers because you can spread everything out. Makes it easier to aquascape. I've moved mine that way 3 times. No problems except the starfish clinging to a rock them almost de-legging him when I positioned the rock. >_<

When my roomate and I combined our tanks into the 600 gallon the only problem we had was a pH drop, so I would add some live rock to the coral holding vat and monitor your pH very closely.
