For some reason I've knoticed my Golden Teardrop Maxima has been quickly contracting and blowing sand into a mound on the side of it's intake/mouth. I'm not sure if it is trying to move itself or what. It is placed on the sand bed with no rocks.
It is not gaping and it looks healthy otherwise, I've had it for atleast two years now.

I had one for a couple of years and just left mine on the sand bed also. Every time I tried to place it higher in the tank on rock or whatever it would knock itself off and end up down there anyways. After a couple of tries I figured why fight it if that's where it wanted to be. Just make sure you don't have a fish that moving the sand while you're not looking and trying to get at the foot for a meal. I had a trigger doing that once to my clams and kill them that way.

Maximas are the highest light demanding clams. I would probably keep it at mid level. Of course if it doesnt want to stay if might be ok at the bottom.
