I have a 240 with 3 250w metal halides, with about 40 orange rics, 20 greens, and 20 blue and purple rics and they all sit on the bottom and do great. In the past I had them under more intense light and they lost color. If you see them stretching up like a funnel, then place them in a higher light area. If they seem shrunk with the beads very small and packed together tightly, then go to lower light. I feed mine brine shrimp every other day..... ricordia are my favorite

Rics tend to like the higher light. Start them at the bottom and move them up a little every day until they are where you want them. With just VHOs you should be able to get them almost to the surface.

Also, put them under moderate-to-lower flow, correct?

Yes. They don't like high flow.
