I have a friend that just called concerned about some snails on his squamosa clam.

Anyone have pictures of pyramid snails on their clam?

Do a Google image search, if the clam has little white conical snails on it, its Pyramid snails, check his other snails also.

Yeah after I typed this, I was still on the phone with him. I did the Yahoo pic search and described them to him. Sure enough he's got em.

What remedies have you all tried? Right now he is removing the clams and physically brushing the snails off as was advised on a few sites. Seems they reproduce really slow and manual cleanings will usually do the trick. Also he already has 2 sixline wrasses.

I just brush them real hard with a toothbrush in freshwater. He'll probably have to do it a few times before he gets rid of them completely.

manually brushing them off will work, but it has got to be repeated several times a week to fully remove them all. Keep with it and the clam should be fine after several months. The deal with wrasses that do keep pyramids to a lower number is that pyramids are out at night and wrasses sleep at night.

Good grief Clint! You know, you may want to think about a big rubber around your next tank.

You get all the STDs!
