You guys that have the big dream tanks with the nice sumps underneath... If you were to scoop out a little of the muck in the bottom of your (well-established) sump, what kind of stuff would you find in there?

I was looking at getting some of that GARF stuff for my araganite bed, but someone here told me to ask a sump-tank owner for some of his sludge...same stuff, apparently.

My objective is to get some more "life" into the tank. GARF makes a big deal about how their sand bed activator stuff has all these micro stars, and all this other stuff in it..they call it "Grunge." Anyone use this stuff?

never used it but heard a lot about it.. i'm always a little leary about giving that stuff away just because there are so many creatures in there that you may not want.. i can take one rock out and rinse it in some water and count 20 different types of creepy crawlies.. Don't know what even a tenth of them are :unsure

If you lived in ATX I'd invite you over to scrape my sump if you wanted. In fact you could take my skimmate home as well. I started with about an inch of aragonite to give my critters a place to live. A year later I have a 1/2" layer of ultra fine silt on top of it.
