Snails

I need some, Who has the best prices around Austin? Prefer astrea or turbo snails but I am not picky. Thanks

River City seems to be nicely stocked and has good prices on snails. The Dome would be my next choice. Some of our other LFS seem to think that because inverts are referred to as "clean up crews", snails should cost $3 or more.

There is a group order for snails and hermits currently going on if you want to get in on it. Look it up in the group order forum.

Yeah, the group order is from reeftopia. It's really hard to beat their prices. I am in Austin and ordering some snails. If you decide to order, I can meet you somewhere to get them to you (split my priority mail from SA?).

your best bet would be to order online. many LFS here have big turbo snails for 2-3$ a piece, but if you order online, you can get them for 1$ or less sometimes

aren't astrea cold water snails? It was always my understanding that they had abbreviated life spans in reef aquariums.

Trochus - awesome snail eats lots of different algae types, mine tend to stay on my rocks.
Turbos - great film grazers
Nassarius - great detrivores that also stir your sandbed
Strombus - good sand bed, stay small, good for cleaning tight areas.
cerith - nocturnal, breed well in tank and provide hermit homes, clean your glass at night, dissapear for the most part in the day.

thats a great group of snails and I wouldn't put astrea on it. (but that's just me. :) )
